“Will my dog listen to everyone once he or she is trained?”

Compliance is handler dependent

One of our go-to expressions is, “Your dog is not a computer.” Therefore, don’t expect or demand results from commands being given by an unfamiliar handler. It takes time and commitment to develop a relationship of obedience with a dog.

“Will my dog act differently after returning from a home-and-away or board-and-train?”

It takes a couple of days for your dog to reacclimate to being back home.

Remember, the time they were away was all about them, packed with learning and exercise - something the average person’s schedule generally can not accommodate.  Also, he or she was integrated into a group of dogs and became used to the familiarity of that company.  Take that away and they miss the routine and the company.  Don’t worry, they’ll be back to normal in no time.

“Should I do the training by myself or incorporate the whole family?”

Training can be done singularly or in a group.

In a perfect world every member of the family would take an active part in the training, however, we know it’s not for everyone.  One or more family members not taking part will not compromise the training done by other members of the family. Remember: compliance is handler dependent.

“Should my young son or daughter take part?”

training success is a function of a comprehensive understanding of concepts and subsequent execution of mechanics.

If your child is capable they are welcome to join in, but typically it is challenging for children 10 years of age and under.
